.CO.IN Domain Price: Registration, Renewal and Transfer

Here is what a .co.in costs with us. Every number is on this page, including the renewal, so nothing new shows up at checkout.

ItemPrice
.CO.IN registration (1 year)₹600 + GST
.CO.IN renewal (1 year)₹600 + GST
.CO.IN transfer (includes a 1 year extension)₹670 + GST
Registration period1 to 10 years
GST18%, added at checkout

What You Pay With GST Included

ItemBefore GSTWith GST (18%)
Registration, first year₹600₹708
Renewal, per year₹600₹708
Transfer, adds one year₹670₹791

Why put the renewal price right next to the offer? Because renewal is where domain bills usually go wrong. A ₹99 first year looks great on a banner, then year two arrives at five times that. We would rather you know the yearly cost before you pay. If you want to compare, we looked at how renewal prices compare across Indian registrars.

Domain and Hosting Together

Building the website at the same time? Our domain and hosting combo starts at ₹1,111 a year and includes a free .in or .co.in domain. Check the combo plan for what is included and what it renews at, or browse our Linux hosting plans on their own.

What Is a .CO.IN Domain?

.CO.IN is one of the zones under .in, India's country-code domain. It is managed by the .IN Registry, which NIXI (the National Internet Exchange of India) runs. That is the same registry behind plain .in.

The "co" stands for commercial. That is why so many older Indian companies sit on .co.in addresses. The zone itself is open to everyone, though, not only companies.

So yourbrand.co.in and yourbrand.in are two separate domains under the same registry and the same rules. If you are weighing up the shorter version too, our page on .IN domain registration covers it.

How a .co.in address is built

yourbrand.co.in

  • yourbrandThe name you choose, between 3 and 63 characters
  • .coThe commercial zone, open to everyone, not only companies
  • .inIndia's country-code domain, managed by the .IN Registry, which NIXI runs

Who Can Register a .CO.IN Domain?

Anyone can. The .IN Registry's policy says registrations in the co.in zone are open to all parties worldwide, with no need to be based in India and no limit on how many you hold. You will still find websites saying it is only for Indian citizens, or capped at two domains per company. The registry's own policy says otherwise.

What does matter is that the details you register with are real, and that they belong to the actual owner.

01

Individuals and Businesses in India

Individuals, sole proprietors, private limited companies, LLPs, partnerships, trusts, NGOs and schools can all register a .co.in.

One piece of advice we give almost every week: register the domain in the business owner's name. Not the web designer's, and not an employee's. The registrant name on record decides who owns the domain. When a freelancer disappears or a staff member leaves, getting a domain back into the right name is slow and stressful, and it is completely avoidable.

02

NRIs and Companies Outside India

You can register from outside India. NIXI asks registrants living abroad to share their business connection with India, or the purpose of the domain. The registry describes this as a procedural step, not something that blocks foreign registrants. The final call sits with the registry, so we will not promise approval, but we can tell you what to have ready before you start.

.CO.IN Domain Rules and KYC Requirements

KYC is mandatory for domains under the .IN Registry. It comes from CERT-In directions under Section 70B of the IT Act, so it is not optional, and it is not a step we added on our own.

01

Domain Name Rules

  • Between 3 and 63 characters
  • Letters a to z, numbers 0 to 9 and hyphens only
  • No hyphen at the start or end, and no hyphens in both the 3rd and 4th positions
  • No Hindi or other Indian-script characters for now
  • Registration terms from 1 to 10 years
02

Contact Details Are Public in WHOIS

There is one more rule people often miss. Contact details on .in-family domains are displayed in the public WHOIS (except the billing contact), so .co.in has no privacy masking. Use details you are fine with being public, like a business address and a business email.

03

KYC Verification for .CO.IN Domains

In practice, you verify your identity within 7 days of registering.

Individuals in IndiaIndividuals in India usually verify with Aadhaar through DigiLocker.

BusinessesBusinesses can use documents such as their GST certificate.

Registrants outside IndiaRegistrants outside India need a passport and a declaration of their connection to India.

Most rejections come down to one thing. The name, address, phone number and email on the domain must match your document exactly, down to spelling, initials and the order of your names. Get that right and verification is usually quick.

Completing KYC With ActiveServers

Verify From Your ActiveServers Account

  1. Log in to your ActiveServers account
  2. Open Domains
  3. Select your .co.in
  4. Click Verify or KYC
  5. Upload the document and submit

The process is the same one we use for .in domains, and our step-by-step KYC guide walks through it. Stuck on a mismatch? Talk to our team and we will help you sort it out.

What Happens If KYC Is Not Completed

The domain goes on hold. It stays registered to you, but it stops working in DNS, so the website and any email on that domain stop until verification is done. If your domain has gone quiet and you are not sure why, raise a support ticket and we will check its status.

How to Register a .CO.IN Domain With ActiveServers

  1. Search your name in our domain search. If yourbrand.co.in is taken, check whether yourbrand.in is free.
  2. Choose how many years you want, from 1 to 10.
  3. Add hosting or email now if you need it. You can also skip this and add it later.
  4. Log in or create an ActiveServers account, and enter your registrant details exactly as they appear on your ID.
  5. Pay by UPI, card, net banking or bank transfer.
  6. Complete KYC from your client area.
  7. Point the domain to your website and email, or ask us to set it up for you.

What Comes With Your .CO.IN Domain

Free DNS management

Point the domain to our hosting or anyone else's, and edit records yourself from your account.

Registrar lock

Nobody can move your domain to another registrar without your approval.

Renewal reminders and auto renew

We email you before the domain expires, and you can switch on auto renew so it never lapses by accident.

KYC assistance

If your details do not match your ID, we help you fix it rather than leaving you with a rejection email.

Support from India

Phone, WhatsApp and ticket, from people who handle .in and .co.in domains all the time.

Not included: WHOIS privacy

What is not included is WHOIS privacy, because the .IN Registry displays contact data publicly. If any provider offers you privacy on a .co.in, it is worth asking what exactly it hides.

.CO.IN vs .IN vs .COM: Which One Fits?

Our honest take: if the .in version of your name is free and short, it is usually the cleaner choice for an India-focused brand. If it is taken, or the .co.in simply reads better for your name, .co.in is a perfectly sound address. If most of your customers are outside India, go with .com.

Your situationBetter fit
Customers mostly in India, and the .in is available.in, because it is shorter
The .in is taken, or .co.in reads better.co.in
Traditional B2B, trading or manufacturing business.co.in works well and is familiar to Indian buyers
Customers mostly outside India.com
You want to protect your brandRegister more than one and redirect them to your main site
i

A quick word on SEO, since it comes up a lot. Google treats a country-code domain as a signal that a site is meant for a particular country, and both .in and .co.in carry that signal. Neither gets a ranking boost over the other. Your content, speed and how well the page answers the search matter far more than the extension. Anyone promising you higher rankings just for picking .co.in is guessing.

Renewal is ₹600 + GST a year. You can renew for more than one year at a time, and with auto renew switched on you will not need to remember the date. We send reminder emails before expiry either way.

Transferring a .CO.IN Domain to ActiveServers

Moving a .co.in to us costs ₹670 + GST and adds one year to the domain. The registry does not allow transfers within 60 days of a domain being registered, so very new domains will need to wait. You will need the domain unlocked at your current registrar and its authorisation (EPP) code.

Transfer your .CO.IN domain, or read the full steps on our domain transfer page.

If Your .CO.IN Domain Expires

  1. ExpiryYour website and email on that domain stop working.
  2. Grace periodThere is a grace period where you can still renew at the normal price.
  3. Redemption periodAfter that, the domain moves into a redemption period where restoring it costs extra.
  4. ReleasedOnce that ends the name is released and anyone can register it.

For the current restore fee, ask our support team. The simplest fix is to renew early and leave auto renew on.

Frequently Asked Questions About .CO.IN Domains

HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT .CO.IN DOMAIN REGISTRATION?

How much does a .CO.IN domain cost at ActiveServers?

Registration is ₹600 plus 18% GST for one year, which is ₹708 in total. Renewal is ₹600 + GST a year, and a transfer in is ₹670 + GST with a one year extension included.

Is the renewal price shown before I buy?

Yes. The renewal price sits in the price table on this page, so you know the yearly cost before you pay. If our prices ever change, we announce it in the client area before it applies.

Who can register a .CO.IN domain? Can NRIs or foreign companies register?

Yes. The .IN Registry opens the co.in zone to everyone worldwide. Registrants outside India are asked to share their business connection with India or the purpose of the domain, which the registry treats as a procedural step.

Is KYC required for a .CO.IN domain?

Yes. KYC is mandatory for domains under the .IN Registry, in line with CERT-In directions. You complete it from your ActiveServers client area, and our team helps if your details do not match your document.

What is the difference between .co.in and .in?

Both are domains under India's .in registry and follow the same rules. .in is shorter. .co.in carries a commercial association and is often available when the .in version of a name is taken. Neither ranks higher on Google because of the extension.

For how many years can I register a .CO.IN domain?

From 1 to 10 years. Registering for several years at once means one less renewal to think about and protects the name for longer.

Is WHOIS privacy available for .CO.IN domains?

No. The .IN Registry displays registrant contact details in WHOIS, apart from the billing contact. That is why your details need to be accurate, and why a business address and email are a good idea.

Can I register a .CO.IN domain without buying hosting?

Yes. Register the domain on its own and point it to a host you already use, or add ActiveServers hosting and email later.

Can I transfer my .CO.IN domain to ActiveServers?

Yes, for ₹600 + GST, which adds one year to the domain. The domain must be at least 60 days old, unlocked at your current registrar, and you will need its authorisation code. See our domain transfer page for the steps.

What happens if my .CO.IN domain expires?

Your website and email stop working. You can usually renew during a grace period, then there is a redemption window where restoring costs extra, and after that the name is released. Renewing early or keeping auto renew on avoids all of it.

Can I register more than one .CO.IN domain?

Yes. The registry places no limit on the number of .co.in domains you can hold, so you can register variations of your brand or separate names for different businesses.
